BCORM Program Initiative
Board of Camping Launches Program Initiative
By Rev. Samuel S. Yun, BCORM Program Consultant
BCORM has become very intentional in making sure that
more programming is available that will help bring such
life-changing opportunities to people of our annual
conference. At a recent board meeting held at Camp
Colby Ranch, the Program Council of the board spent time
together diligently visioning for new programming that
changes lives and ultimately builds up the Kingdom of God.
Guiding our discussion were our four "value vectors" of our
camp and retreat ministries that determine and define our
ongoing growth and change as a ministry: to be
Christ-Centered, Program-Driven, Relationally-Based, and
Culturally-Relevant.
Out of our discussion, we were able to establish six new
programs that you will see in the upcoming year:
Gospel Music Camp (a music oriented training retreat geared
for Junior and Senior High), The Director's Invitational (a
by-invitation-only retreat for training in leadership skills
for youth with "high leadership potential'), Youth Service
Camp (and opportunity for various youth groups to come and
work on needed repairs at one of our seven campsites while
deepening their faith commitment to service), Father-Son
Weekend (a spiritual hiking and fishing expedition into Camp
Sturtevant) and Mother-Daughter Weekend (a pampered get-away
for deepening the spiritual connection), Crossing Bridges
Retreat (an intentional gathering in a multi-cultural
context for the purpose of deepening our awareness and
appreciation of diversity), and The Women of Faith Retreat
(a women's retreat focused on the dynamic mix of spiritual
formation and advocacy).
In addition to these new programs, the Program Council
also decided to offer an endorsement to the Sierra Service
Project (www.sierraserviceproject.org)
as well as be in partnership with Camp Rockfish in North
Carolina for the purpose of running Operation Purple (www.nmfa.org)
at Camp Lazy W this year. Sierra Service Project is a
non-profit organization providing life-changing experiences
through acts of service repairing homes in Native American
and urban communities and building homes in Honduras.
Operation Purple is a special outreach to children of
military personnel who are deployed overseas. Through
a special government grant these children and youth are able
to experience a fun and loving camp where they receive
support and care.
As these new programs are fleshed out in the next couple
of months, there will be more detailed information shared
with regards to dates, locations, and registration.
Please be sure to check the Circuit West, our Cal-Pac
website, as well as our new "CalPacCamps.org" website (to be
launched on March 30th) for more information and updates.
This is indeed an exciting time for our camp and retreat
ministries. We invite you to join us in partnership
through prayer, participation, and giving as we see more and
more lives changed and as more disciples are made for God's
Kingdom.
