Planning your own church retreat
Reflecting our major shift in our camp and retreat
ministries from being simply facilities-driven to being more
program driven is our hope and desire that there will also
be more camp and retreat programming done at the local
church level. We do understand, however, that to plan
a retreat or a camp for your church will take a lot of time
and commitment. What we want to do is to make that
somewhat easier for you.
The following are highly recommended resources to help in
your retreat planning:
The Retreat Leader's Manual was recently published
through General Board of Discipleship. It contains a
solid base for faith formation in retreats, and is also a
practical guide for organizing and leading them. The
manual includes the nuts and bolts of how to plan a budget,
the right questions to ask about a potential retreat site,
and ideas for making Bible study and worship memorable for
people of all ages.

Reconnecting Time is a resource useful in planning church
family retreats and camps. Kevin Witt, Director of
Camping at the General Board of Discipleship states, "In the
harried milieu of modern life, we all cherish times
specifically set aside to connect with God, to develop
stronger relationships, and to build special memories
together that are important to our faith journey.
Reconnecting Time offers congregations ways to make those
connections.

Utilizing a Camp & Retreat staff person to consult with
your local church
There are several staff persons and volunteers working
with the Board of Camping, Outdoor and Retreat Ministries
that can offer consultation service for your church or
retreat planning committee to help you prepare for a life
changing program. For whatever your needs and for
however small or large your camp and retreat plans may be,
do not hesitate to call us. Our number one goal is to
be in partnership with you and help resource the local
church to make disciples of Jesus Christ!
